MHF Faraja Day Center celebrate International Women’s Day

Host Mercedes “Electra” van der Waals-Wyatt champions women’s empowerment
In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) Faraja Day Center recently hosted an inspirational afternoon with guest motivational speaker Mercedes “Electra” van der Waals-Wyatt.
Organized by key staff members, the afternoon was designed to motivate and empower female clients and staff, reminding them of the importance of strength, resilience and self-worth.
Electra delivered a stirring speech that resonated deeply with attendees. She spoke about empowerment, urging all women present to support and uplift one another. She emphasized the power of unity, encouraging attendees to find strength in their collective experiences and to embrace their own inner power.
A highlight of her speech was when Electra talked about her mother, a woman who shattered boundaries and overcame numerous obstacles in both her personal life and career. Her mother’s strength and resilience inspired Electra, and her life a model that shaped her to become the woman she is today. This heart-felt testimony moved the audience, the strength and resilience proving to be qualities that are not only built but also passed on from generation to generation.
In addition to sharing her personal anecdotes, Electra also reminded the audience of a fundamental truth: they are, and need to always be, the priority in their own lives. “Love yourself. Take care of yourself,” she urged. “Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and be yourself. Present your best self every day, wherever you are.” These words served as a reminder of the importance of self-care and self-acceptance in the journey toward empowerment.
In keeping with this year’s theme for International Women’s Day, Electra called on all women to accelerate progress and continue to push for equal treatment and opportunity in every aspect of their lives. Her message was straightforward: true empowerment is a matter of long-term effort and collective action.
The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session. The interaction helped to further enhance the event’s mission, facilitating an avenue for women to learn from, support and inspire one another.
The Faraja Day Center International Women’s Day celebration was not so much an event but a call to action, a reminder of the incredible strength that lies in every woman.
